DOUGLAS

VIANA

The Minas Gerais artist Douglas Viana presents in his works an intrinsic mixture of elements that appear frequently in his deliveries: stains, splashes and splashes of color on objects, images and supports that have in themselves a deep proximity to their creator.

What we call Street Art takes on other meanings when we study not only the relationship between the works and the person Douglas, but also the various factors that facilitate the connection with the viewer, as well as chanceling, almost naturally, the personality that stamps the choice of palette and depositing nostalgic elements that were present in specific moments of his childhood.

The unmistakable children’s aesthetic reveals the inconsequential audacity of belonging to theoretically unattainable social places, which at all times highlights its politicized critical position. While the great institutions of the art circuit have historically sponsored and promoted fine arts and productions that dialogue, in a certain way, with everyday bourgeois life, graffiti and graffiti enter this scope as marginal, peripheral and representative of a popular language erased in the artistic and social sphere.

The artist’s life story and the way in which his expressive intensity is seen in contemporary times are triggered by his familiarity with the street, the understanding of the rudimentary foundations of his creation and the principles of instruction and yearning for accustomed religiosity, very present in the various decisive phases of his works.

As a multidisciplinary urban artist, Douglas amalgamates Street Art manifestations with a comprehensive understanding of pop, subverting it and creating a new poetically consenting concept, “Street Pop”, a concept of urbanographic positioning that is very recognizable in all of his pieces.

The process means a lot, since all of his artistic abstraction confesses the result of the work, in ephemeral violence of colors and gestures, his pure and authentic human experience, exorbitantly linked to contestation, as well as to the evidence of values that permeate his entire life. trajectory.
